Pending school board approval, Ryan Wolski will be named the next head coach of the Marple Newtown varsity girls basketball team.
Wolski would replace Mike Colgan, who stepped down in April after six seasons. Wolski was an assistant coach under Colgan this past season.
This past season, the Tigers qualified for the District One Class AAA tournament for the second season in a row. The program faces a rebuild following the departures seniors Rylee Power and Carley Hamilton, both of whom dominated the scoring responsibilities over the last four years.
Wolski will become the youngest basketball coach in Delco. He is a 2008 graduate of Cardinal O’Hara, where he played football and basketball. He is a product of Cabrini College.
Last year, Wolski offered a helping hand to the O’Hara football program following the sudden death of longtime football coach Danny Algeo. Wolski was one of several volunteer assistant coaches on the sideline for the 2014 season.
