Few Saturdays in the high school season are as busy as this one, and when we say we had you covered, I mean we had just about all of it covered.
Let’s start with the scheduled girls basketball District One opening day. Lorna Caesar and Indiah Cauley led Penn Wood to a big win over Downingtown West. The Chester girls got a humbling introduction to districts courtesy of Spring-Ford. Turnovers doomed Haverford in a loss to Bishop Shanahan. And Strath Haven was unable to score a road upset of Neshaminy. In the Catholic League quarters, Bonner-Prendergast’s shooting heated up just in time to down Archbishop Carroll.
For the District One boys, Malik Jackson led Penn Wood to a comfortable win over Shanahan, while Mahir Johnson did the same for Chester over Henderson. Penncrest, however, saw its season end at the hands of Central Bucks West.
On the wrestling mats, Interboro 106-pounder Kyleigh D’Agostino booked a historic trip to districts, highlighting the Del Val contingent. Over at Centrals, Garnet Valley was dominant again with eight finalists and four champions. And at the Catholic League Championships, Bonner-Prendergast’s Joe DePhillipo added a PCL title to his credentials.
