At long last, after what feels like weeks of digging out, high school sports came back to the fields of play Thursday. On the basketball court, the balance of Garnet Valley showed through again as the girls beat Ridley, while Brandi Johnson helped Strath Haven shut down Marple Newtown. For the boys, Rahmi Halaby played a starring role as Penncrest pulled out an overtime win over Upper Darby. Elsewhere, Joey Sweeney’s big night laid the groundwork for Garnet Valley’s win over Ridley in the lead to the roundup, while Henry Miller has played a key role for Delco Christian this season, according to Matthew De George’s notebook. On the wrestling mats, Garnet Valley shook off a slow start to continue on in District Duels. In the pool, Radnor’s fast finish led the girls to a win, while Tim Caulfield’s two wins led the Radnor boys to a victory. Bonner-Prendergast picked up a win in bowling, while Episcopal Academy sealed a thrilling girls squash win.
