Even during some lean years as the Ridley coach, Stephane Charbonneau always raved about the potential that the Green Raiders had.

He knew that his young players would eventually develop. Last year definitely helped, as Ridley beat Pennridge, 1-0, in quadruple overtime in the Flyers Cup Class AA tournament on a Nick Christopher goal and a 40-save shutout from Brendahn Brawley.

Charbonneau had high hopes for this year’s Green Raiders team, high hopes that he still spoke of Saturday morning when he said that he’d stepped down as the Ridley boss, citing a discord with the team’s board.

“It’s too bad because I think we were going to be pretty good this year,” said Charbonneau, who is the general manager of IceWorks and also coaches the Delco Phantoms’ Pee Wee AA team. “But the board and I didn’t agree on how to do things, so I just said, ‘all right, that’s enough. I’m done.’ I was really looking forward to this year, too, because I think we definitely had some potential.”

The Green Raiders were 7-10-4 last year and were bounced in the second round of the Flyers Cup by No. 3 Downingtown East, 2-1.
