The Academy of Notre Dame’s Moira Putsch will aim to make county history next year. Before that, though, the reigning Daily Times Player of the Year made sure to take care of a decision that had been looming for a while.
According to Irish coach Adele Williams, Putsch ended her recruitment by choosing to join 2009 and 2010 Daily Times Player of the Year and former teammate Katie Gerzabek at the University of Maryland. Putsch’s decision came down to Maryland, Penn State and Virginia, where Notre Dame senior two-time All-Delco Emily Faught signed with, and ultimately, the Irish’s fearsome sniper made the call for Maryland.
Putsch and Cardinal O’Hara All-Delco Marissa Cicione shattered the county goals record this year with 45 apiece to go with Putsch’s Delco record of 70 points. Putsch holds nearly every single school record, plus most county scoring records, including the mark for goals in a career with 86 (and counting) despite missing half of her sophomore year with a torn ACL.
