SPECIAL TO THE TIMES/BARRY TAGLIEBER

Gold, gold and more gold for Delco at the PIAA Track & Field championships. Strath Haven’s Jack Huemmler‘s disappointing finish last year fueled his championship effort in this year’s 1,600-meter race. Garnet Valley All-Delco Wellington Zaza‘s quest to become the first athlete since Penn Wood legend Leroy Burrell to win four gold medals at one championship came up short, but Zaza’s incredible career did not. Speaking of Penn Wood, Caela Williams claimed the state title in the 400 and helped the Patriots win the 4 x 400. Pretty good. In District One softball action, Jamie Lachall overcame her frustrations to help Sun Valley knock off Springfield, 9-8, in a rematch of last year’s district title game. A clutch hit from Sarah Murray propelled Chichester past top-seeded Radnor, 8-6Taylor Lord and All-Delco Lauren Fortunato both went yard to give Agnes Irwin a 2-0 win over Episcopal Academy for the PAISAA title. On the baseball diamond, Strath Haven’s magical season came to a screeching halt in a 5-0 loss to North Penn.
