It’s no exaggeration to call Saturday one of the biggest high school sports day of the year, as the plethora of coverage we provided evidenced. At the Penn Relays, (soccer All-Delcos) Kristen Miller and Allie Wilson helped Strath Haven to a fourth-place finish in the 4 x 800, plus all the other girls action. Cardinal O’Hara’s boys, meanwhile, mixed things up in a finals-worthy performance. And then there’s the continuing success of Wellington Zaza, the Garnet Valley senior hurdling doubt en route to a medal. (There’s also plenty of non-high school action from Franklin Field, like a surprising and historic victory by the Villanova women, a solid performance by the ‘Nova men and excitement in U.S. vs. the World.) And just for good measure, plenty of track stars were out at Springfield, where Academy Park hauled in plenty of medals.

At the centerpiece of the lacrosse calendar, the Katie Samson Lacrosse Festival, Robert Raucci came up big for Garnet Valley in a double-OT win, plus all the other boys action. The Strath Haven girls changed things up a bit, with Kathryn Restrepo taking center stage in a comprehensive win over Episcopal Academy. And last but not least, Haverford School’s Matt Galetta throws a one-hit gem to quiet the Marple Newtown bats and lead our schools roundup.
