If you’re looking to spend a beautiful evening at a local park, make it Genthert Park in Havertown for tonight’s Central League showdown between first-place Haverford (6-2, 5-1) and Springfield (5-3, 4-2). First pitch is slated for 7 o’clock, with the junior varsity playing at 5.

What to Watch: Haverford’s string of impressive wins in the Central League — including a blowout of Garnet Valley and a 3-1 decision over Upper Darby — was halted when the Fords suffered a defeat at the hands of Conestoga. Springfield beat Conestoga earlier in the year.

Slated to start in the pitchers’ circle for Haverford is Bridget Newman. She’ll likely oppose Courtney Scarpato. The two pitchers have combined for eight wins this season.

Newman, Mary Cotton, Maura Cesanek and Tyler Beccari have been among the hot swingers for the Fords, who are coming off a 4-1 win over defending Central League champion, Radnor. Beccari is among the county leaders in extra-base hits with six (three doubles, three triples).

For Springfield, slugger Alexa Naughton and All-Delco shortstop Lauren Scarpato fuel a lineup that is averaging 9.4 runs per game in five wins this season.
