The first of three meetings, the Bucs host the Eagles on what is shaping up to be a glorious day for softball.
One of the best rivalries in Delco softball, the Bucs are the reigning champions of the Del Val League. As I wrote in Monday’s season outlook, Interboro defeated Chichester on the last day of the regular season back-to-back years to capture the league title. Interboro won last season’s series, 2-1, and today’s showdown will be the first of more games.
What to watch: The Bucs’ aggressive lineup against Chichester sophomore Meghan Wimmer, who is one of the brightest young pitching talents in the county. Last year, things unraveled for Wimmer at Interboro. Wimmer, I’m sure, remembers that game vividly and is looking to redeem herself.
Brandi James, the Bucs’ slugging first baseman, had an impressive showing in the Bucs’ season debut, March 29. Olivia Encarnacion, the team’s pitching ace, also looked sharp in a 10-0 win over Ridley. Interboro then lost to Easton last week, 4-2
Chichester routed Penn Wood to open its season last week, the only game they’ve played. Michelle Hagarty cracked two roundtrippers and Tiffani Malin also smashed a home run in the 19-0 win.
I’ll have full coverage of the game in Thursday’s edition of the Daily Times. Follow me on Twitter @DTMattSmith for updates.
