Catholic League Girls Soccer: Cardinal O’Hara in the hunt

The Cardinal O’Hara girls soccer team may leave opponents with a case of double vision this season. The Lions’ eyes, meanwhile, are fixed squarely on their goal of a Catholic League title.

Thanks to dynamic midfield/forwards Christina and Catherine Wroblewski, O’Hara should be a factor this season in deciding just where the Catholic league championship lands.

Head coach Jim Kutys has to replace just two seniors from a season ago, leaving a strong nucleus of returnees. Cathy Mirarchi will join the Wroblewskis up front, while Nicole Catania and Catherine Kutys will provide support in the midfield. The ability of sophomore Jess DiGiacomo to get on the score sheet on several occasions this young season also bodes well.

At the back, Kiersten Miller and Alex Patrick will lead the way in front of Carrie Zamonski, who has been solid between the sticks.

It’ll be a bit of a rebuilding year for Kim Detweiler at Bonner-Prendergast thanks to a roster that boasts just one senior (forward Kelly Monaghan).

But the supporting cast has promise, especially in attack. Midfielders Christmas White and Victoria Brooks bring skill on the ball, while speedy freshman Allison Hart is able to maraud up and down the flank. Forward Kait Kerrigan and midfielder Bern Carey should also be contributors.

The backline is learning together, with the likes of juniors Maggie and Tess Ulmer and Rosie O’Halloran occupying space in front of sophomore keeper Miranda Corrigan.

Most of what Archbishop Carroll hopes to do this season should go through Danielle Robinson. In Robinson, coach Eileen Boneck has a playmaker in the midfield to link defense with the attack.

Among the targets are Lauren George, Cara Santoleri and Monica Clark, while Abby Johnson will hold things down in net.
