Reader Poll: Who’s the best boys soccer goalkeeper in Delco?

The end of the season can mean only one thing (and no, it’s not that the time for basketball season is right around the corner).

It means that we at the Daily Times have the unenviable task of sifting through a season’s worth of outstanding performances and singling out a handful of players on whom to bestow the honor of being an All-Delco. It’s never easy, and it’s never fun, so we’ll use the blog to gauge what the fans are thinking.

As I set out the candidates for both the boys and girls soccer teams, one of the most hotly-contested positions seems to be the boys goaltender. There are a bunch of candidates  who are, statistically-speaking, grouped tightly together.

So presented without commentary, here are their stats, and we’ll see what you think:

Wesley Dickson, Radnor: 15 goals allowed on 133 shots, 88.7 save percentage

Dave Sousa, Springfield: 15 goals allowed on 127 shots, 88.2 save percentage

David Ruffini, Strath Haven: 18 goals allowed on 128 shots, 87.7 save percentage

Peter Coote, Penncrest: 22 goals allowed on 129 shots, 82.9 save percentage

Matt Skwirut, Sun Valley: 27 goals allowed on 142 shots, 81.0 save percentage

  1. Strathhaven plays a much harder nonleague schedule then the other goalies…needs to be considered. Also how can any DelVal teams be considered for any top honors, the level of play does not even compare to the Central league.Example Pennwood lose 0-6 in playoffs!

  2. Radnor and Strathhaven are both in the Central League!!! And Radnor beat Strathhaven 4-2! I vote for WESLEY DICKSON! He’s incredible!!!

  3. As a man with no horse in this race, in my opinion, the two David’s are by far the best keepers in delco. They are both vocal senior leaders on their respective squads and show up in big games (Sousa 15+ saves against stoga, Ruffini 18 saves against north penn in playoffs). With similar stats its hard to distinguish however, haven’s more difficult schedule and injury depleted back line gets Ruffini my vote

  4. Haven had a much harder schedule, and anyone who saw David play against North Penn last week can attest to his tenacity- those saves were some of the best I’ve ever seen. Despite injuries and card trouble within the team and losing an excellent player to the new Academy rules, Ruffini has been an amazing keeper for this great squad. Vote DRuff for best keeper in Delco!

  5. I must give my vote to David Ruffini. Shutting out Holy Ghost Prep and Christopher Dock says it all. Strath Haven has by far the hardest out of league schedule and were missing their center backs for some games (radnor, chestnut hill, christopher dock). This kid has phenomenal talent and deserves this more than anyone.
